Orlando Wilson Mason, one of Montgomery County's most highly respected citizens and the father of Edwin M. Mason supreme scribe of the Tribe of Ben Hur passed away at the Culver Hospital Tuesday morning after a brief illness. Mr. Mason's death occurred shortly before one o'clock and was caused by pneumonia. The deceased was born August 9, 1860 at the old Mason Home north of New Richmond. On May 28, 1884, Mr. Mason was united in marriage with Clara Montgomery Quick, daughte rof Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Quick. After living at the home place until the spring of 1891 Mr. Mason took up his residence in New Richmond where for many years he was engaged in the lumber business. It was during this residence at New Richmond that he served two terms as trustee of CC township. Mr. Mason then moved to Young's Chapel neighborhood where he engaged in farming. After a few years he returned to New Richmond, later coming to Crawfordsville where he resided for six years. During his residence in this city he lived in the house where the Ben Hur homenow standson South Grant Avenue. During the last few years of his life, he had been a resident of New Richmond. Throughout life Mr. Mason had been active in the New Richmond Christian Church and for many years was a leader if the Knights of Pythias Lodge. Mr. Mason was an extensive land owner in the New Richmond neighborhood and had always taken a keen interest in agriculture. The deceased was an ardent Democrat and was known to his many firneds as a staunch believe in the principles of his party. Mr. Mason's total illness began last Tuesday when he was confined to his home at New Richmond after a pleurisy attack. On Saturday morning his illness took a turn for the worse when he developed pneumonia. Saturday night he was removed to the Culver Hospital which he aided in making possible through his service as a member of the hospital board. Mrs. Mason who had been ill at the home for sometime was also brought to the hospital Saturday night where she is now a patient. Those surviving are Mrs. Mason; three sons, Edwin M. Mason and Lee Mason both of Crawfordsville and Ewing Mason of near New RIchmond. 10 grandchildren also survive. The funeral services will be conducted at the New Richmond Christian Church Thursday afternoon at two o'clock with the Rev. Oscar Kelly of Terre Haute in charge.
